Why Yakima?

We catch a lot of crap in Yakima. Some deserved... mostly not. But when it comes to beer culture and history, the Yakima Valley has some very rich content. Skrote™ Beer Growlers were conceived and designed in same farming community as the vast majority of the hops used to make your favorite beer. Read on to learn just a little about that....

The Yakima Valley Grows Your Beer

We sell growlers.... So in the grand scheme, we don't really matter. But the inspiration to serve the beer enthusiast comes from our team growing up in the shadow of the Cascade Mountains in Central Washington State — where 75% of U.S. hop production takes place — in the absolutely incredible Yakima Valley.

Bert Grant ~ The Man Who Started It All

After honing his skills brewing beer for some of the masters throughout Europe... Bert Grant decided to bring his precious gift to the U.S. When choosing a location, Bert looked to the source... and the highest quality, most plentiful hops in North America came from the Yakima Valley. So in 1982, Grants Brewing & Malting opened its doors in a 100+ year old Opera House on Historic Front Street in downtown Yakima... and became the first brew pub in the United States since prohibition. I shit you not.
